Yahoo adds blogs to its news search

SAN FRANCISCO - Yahoo has added Internet blogs as a supplement to professional media offerings in its news search tool. The experiment will serve as a test of the public's appetite for information from alternative sources.

Under Yahoo's new approach, a keyword search for online news will include a list of relevant Web logs, or blogs, displayed in a box to the right of the results collected from mainstream journalism.

Google, which runs the Internet's leading search engine, has so far treated blogs differently.

Yahoo's inclusion of blogs in its news section marks further validation for those who are bypassing newspapers, magazines and broadcast outlets to report and comment on topical events.

Although many top bloggers lack formal journalism training, it hasn't stopped them from building loyal readerships or breaking news that the mainstream media either missed or ignored.

**************************************************************

To all those who've found us through the new Google search feature, please feel free to bookmark our page, and come back often. We'll allow anonymous commentary, but you should know that we consider the anonymous contributors to be cowards of the first degree. We ARE however interested in allowing you to post those comments because the give and take is what America is all about. We believe that diversity and differences of opinion bear the majority of the load, when it comes to making this country work the way it does. You will be allowed to show us EXACTLY what you think on any of our topics, and you can expect the give and take to be exactly that -- give and take. Accept our most sincere "Welcome," and come back often.

God Bless,
Dan'L

What's the big deal with you and anonymous opinions?? I think what matters most is the topic and the different view-points that are being expressed on that topic. I mean if they give their name what difference does it make as far as what they are conveying? Either way you seem to call everyone a moron whether their anonymous or not when you disagree with them. Is the purpose of this blog entry to give yourself a license to add the word coward to your other favorite word "moron"?

No, Larry. It just seems to me that common courtesy would dictate that a person joining a discussion would want people to know WHO they are, if they expect their contribution to be WORTHY of consideration.

Let's say you and a friend are sitting at the local pub, and having a conversation about some political topic. Someone walks up and abruptly joins in, making no attempt to introduce themselves. You didn't INVITE them to do so, but you aren't going to physically drive them away, either. Does their contribution carry as much weight as your friend?? I didn't think so.

Would you give that person the courtesy of asking who they are, and why they should be interested in your conversation?? Sure you would. Why should anyone's blog be any different??

You might think it's really neat to be anonymous, and the anonymity of the Internet is a really cool thing, but in the world of political debate, anyone who leans on anonymity is a coward -- plain and simple. You know it, and I know it.

It's about character and having the courage of one's convictions. If you have no character, or the courage to back up what you say, by at least meeting the minimum standard of signing your REAL name, your words are generally looked upon with disdain, and mean next to nothing.

Disagree all you want, but I'd humbly suggest you do so, on your own damned blog -- not mine!! Okay?? I make the policy around here, because the topics are of MY choosing. If you have a problem with that, please move along, . . . Good Luck, and . . .

Dan'L

Yo Bubb-EYE! Shouldn't you have expounded that if you GIVE your identity you'll TAKE it and fire up your Dick Tracy machinery, find out where this person lives and then make threats against them if they have a difference of opinion?

Typical of a liberal bent. Make accusations with ZERO evidence of any wrongdoing, whatsoever. Puhleazzzzze! Grow up child. Until you have an accusation, you cannot make such a stoooooopid claim, and have any credibility, whatsoever. (and, if you did, do you not understand that there are plenty of places to legitimately make your allegations, . . . but they won't listen, either, if you want to be anonymous).

Besides, YOU don't even KNOW who Dick Tracy was, (comic strip by Chester Gould stopped, shortly after his death, and then the libs at Disney got hold of the rights), he was a cop --- I'm NOT a cop, moron. I have no powers of arrest, and very little beyond what a normal citizen can acquire. What kind of power do you think I'd want to wield against my liberal adversaries, and why would I do so, and who would pay me to do it?? I'd bet you're a conspiracy theorist, too!! Please move along, . . . Bubb-EYE!!

I'm the anonymous person who posted on your "ASSIGNING BLAME FOR KATRINA RESPONSE" blog. Don't worry I'm not gonna post anything.
This is your site, but it tee's me off that your blasting anonymous posters who can't select the blogger button because they don't have a blog, so you want the majority of the posters to select "other" and type in a name when its simple to just push the anonymous button. You should set up a site where people have to "join" in order to comment.

You MIGHT be correct. But then, when you think about it, it's no more difficult than the difference between those who run, full steam, all the way around the block to avoid a little spam, rather than just punch that little delete key. Ever watch someone working in a retail environment, who ALWAYS uses the far-right hand enter key, on the ten-key pad, on a full keyboard, where it becomes obvious that they can't type and have never had a keyboarding or typing class?? Sure you have. Ever wonder why they allow themselves to develop such bad habits, and complain as loudly as they do, when you KNOW it's as much their own fault, as anyone else on the planet?? Sure you have. Meeeeee toooooo!! Anonymity isn't JUST a convenient approach to making comments. Going through the motions of introducting yourself is STILL a common courtesy that is expected by anyone who considers themselves a member of a civilized society. Anonymity will continue to be called out, for what it is, . . . cowardice and/or laziness beyond acceptability.

You really should change to a different format of exchange. Your on the "far right" as far as I'm concerned and the majority of people are going to be to the "left" of you. As long as you post blogs that tick off everyone left of you your going to get anonymous posters because they are too ticked off to type in a name and kindly introduce themselves. They're just interested in making their point and too pissed off at you to go thru a formal intro. If you can't see that, be prepared for this quick internet exchange of PO'ed readers to post anonymously. It's reality of the beast.

Change to a different format BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE TO THE LEFT OF ME???????? Sure. Maybe you just cannot accept the 2000 Florida totals, as yet. Maybe you missed the last election, too. Maybe that Red/Blue County-based map, showing how the country voted is something that those evil conservatives have conjured up, to make you guys look like a minority. Maybe your party doesn't really NEED any true substantive positions on issues that face every day Americans. Maybe, too, Santa will bring me a new Ferrari, this Christmas, . . . . BUT I DOUBT IT!

It was nice having you, while you were here. Stop by often. Maybe posting is something you should avoid.

There's no might be correct about it. I am correct. You've only had 2-posts in your favor since you embarked on this endeavor and they both emanated from your own keyboard. Just trying to help. But if it brings you some sort of self gratification to blog an extension of your mindset week after week and get continuously pummeled by anonymous responders so be it. It just seems like a rediculously redundant form of self persecution and major waste of ones time.
